In the early 2000s, India’s relationship with personal mobility was changing. Cities were expanding, commutes were growing longer, and scooters were no longer just tools for short hops to the local market. They had become everyday essentials, and despite their importance, most scooters followed a familiar formula of prioritising efficiency over everything else. That changed in 2007 with the arrival of the Suzuki Access 125. As India’s first 125cc four-stroke scooter, it brought with it a simple but powerful idea: more capability without compromise. Designed specifically for Indian roads and Indian families, the Access quietly reshaped expectations of what a family scooter could deliver.
Across three generations, the Access has evolved in step with the country itself. Each iteration reflects changing demands, growing aspirations and a deeper understanding of everyday mobility, while staying true to its core values of practicality, comfort and trust.

REDEFINING EXPECTATIONS
When the first generation Access was launched, scooters were rarely associated with performance or comfort. Its 124cc air-cooled engine immediately set it apart, offering stronger torque and smoother acceleration that made daily riding less stressful and more confidence-inspiring. Whether it was carrying a pillion, navigating traffic or managing heavier loads, the Access delivered effortlessness where it mattered most.

Equally transformative was its suspension. The Access became the first scooter in India to feature a telescopic front fork, significantly improving ride quality and stability on uneven roads. Combined with a mature, timeless design and robust engineering, the Gen 1 Access built its reputation not through novelty, but through consistency. Its long production run and enduring popularity were proof that Suzuki had struck the right balance.
EVOLUTION WITH PURPOSE
By 2016, expectations from scooters had evolved. Buyers wanted better refinement, efficiency and modern safety features. Suzuki answered with the Gen 2 Access, a thorough update that reimagined the icon. The Gen 2 Access was lighter, quicker and more efficient. Suzuki Eco Performance technology improved fuel economy without dulling performance, while the larger 12-inch front wheel enhanced stability. Safety took a leap with an optional front disc and combined braking system.

In 2020, as BS6 emissions norms tightened, the Access adapted with fuel injection, bringing smoother throttle response. Practical updates such as an LED headlamp and external fuel filler lid followed. Later updates introduced Suzuki Ride Connect, adding Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and call alerts. Despite these changes, the Access retained its mature character, helping it remain the bestselling scooter in the 125cc segment. By 2023, production crossed five million units, rising to six million by 2024.
BUILT FOR A SMARTER INDIA

Today’s India is more connected and more demanding than ever before, and the third generation Access reflects that shift. It is the most advanced version yet, with improvements focused on efficiency, performance and intelligent features.
The 124cc engine has been reworked with revised internals, including changes to the camshaft, along with redesigned intake and exhaust systems. The CVT has also been retuned, improving mid-range performance while enhancing fuel efficiency. The result is a scooter that feels perfectly suited to modern city riding.
Technology now plays a central role, and Suzuki Ride Connect offers Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call and message alerts and diagnostics. Practicality remains front and centre, with a large 24.4-litre underseat storage compartment, USB charging, external fuel filling and additional front storage spaces.
A Legacy That Endures

When Suzuki introduced the Access in 2007, it wasn’t just launching a new scooter, it was introducing an idea. A scooter built in India, for India, designed to quietly and reliably support everyday life. Nearly two decades later, that idea has only grown stronger. With exports reaching global markets and millions of customers placing their trust in it, the Access stands as a testament to thoughtful evolution done right.
Keeping up the momentum of progress, the latest update to the Access 125 includes single-channel ABS, a thoughtful and practical addition, making it India’s bestselling 125cc scooter to include the feature. This is not merely the story of a successful scooter. It is the story of consistency, relevance and two decades of quiet progress, driven forward by the latest Suzuki Access 125.
