Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Tested With Standard Safety Equipment
Global NCAP evaluated the Ciaz in its current production form sold in India. Standard safety features on the tested model include:
- Dual front airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- ISOFIX child seat anchorages
- Seatbelt reminders
The 2025 Ciaz misses out on side and curtain airbags, which had a significant impact on its overall safety performance.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Adult Occupant Protection Explained
In the adult occupant protection test, the Ciaz scored 20.86/34 points, resulting in a 1-star rating.
During the frontal offset crash test, protection levels varied across body regions:
- Driver head protection was rated good
- Driver chest and thigh protection were marginal
- Protection for the driver’s feet was rated poor
- Front passenger protection ranged from adequate to good
In the side impact test, the sedan offered weak chest protection, which further affected the score.
Importantly, Global NCAP rated the bodyshell and footwell area as unstable, stating that the structure is not capable of withstanding additional loads. The Ciaz was not tested in the side pole impact test due to the absence of curtain airbags.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Child Occupant Protection Explained
The Ciaz fared relatively better in child occupant protection, securing 28.57/49 points and a 3-star rating.
In dynamic crash performance:
- Both the 18-month-old rearward-facing child seat and the 3-year-old forward-facing seat offered full protection in frontal and side impact tests
However, the overall child safety score was reduced due to shortcomings in usability and compatibility:
- Poor child seat installation scores
- No option to deactivate the front passenger airbag
- Lack of 3-point seatbelts for all seating positions
- Failure of child restraint installation in the rear centre seat
These factors significantly affected the vehicle assessment score.
What This Safety Rating Means For Buyers
While the Ciaz offers a spacious cabin and comfortable ride, its 1-star adult safety rating highlights clear structural and equipment limitations. Buyers prioritising safety should note that several rivals in the C-sedan segment now offer significantly higher crash protection.
With no major safety update planned and the model nearing the end of its lifecycle, the Ciaz falls behind modern safety benchmarks despite having ESC and ISOFIX as standard.
Currently priced between Rs. 9.09 lakh and Rs. 11.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Ciaz remains one of the more affordable C-sedans, but its safety performance is no longer competitive in this segment.
