Let’s start with setting the stage for the price range.
Positioning
Tata Motors don’t just want to enter the C-SUV space, which, until recently was dominated completely by the Hyundai Creta. They want to own it. While Maruti Suzuki are also in the mood to hijack this highly profitable space with multiple cars (Victoris and Vitara), Tata’s strategy is a little different.
The Maruti’s 2 cars don’t share the same showroom floor unlike other car manufacturers. However, they do have an overlapping price range.
Tata’s plan is also to have 2 cars in the same price band but at two different price points. For the budget end of the C-SUV buyer, the Curvv will handle the demand. Meanwhile, for the higher end and more upmarket buyer, they will have the Sierra.
Naturally, there will be some price overlap, but different styling and starting price points will give them enough of a breathing room so they can exist together on a single showroom floor.
Thar Roxx
The Roxx starts at Rs. 12.25 lakh and this car is bad news for Tata Sierra. This means, they can’t have a starting price higher than that of the Thar Roxx. Even with a base price of Rs. 12.0 lakh, the Sierra will have a tough time justifying that asking price as the Sierra will come with 1.5L normal petrol-manual while the Roxx has a 2.0L turbo petrol engine. For the higher variants, the Sierra will have a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine but no 4WD; at least with the petrol/diesel engine. Sierra EV may have the 4WD option.
The lack of 4WD puts a cap on the upper price limit of the Sierra.
On the lower end, a price gap of Rs. 1.25 lakh will help the Sierra maintain sufficient distance from the Thar Roxx and bring it within reach of buyers considering other C-segment SUVs such as the Creta, Victoris, Seltos, Hyryder, Vitara and others. That means a Rs. 11.0 lakh starting price.
On the upper end, the Sierra petrol/diesel variants may go as high as Rs. 20.0 lakh. That’s still about Rs. 70,000 higher than the Creta top model if you exclude the special editions. The Thar Roxx top model also tops out at Rs. 20.0 lakh but considering its larger engine options, it won’t be on the radar of buyers who want higher fuel efficiency.

Tata Sierra Expected Price Range
With the logic explained in the previous headings, we believe that the Sierra base model will cost Rs. 11.0 lakh and while the 2025 Sierra top model may cost as much as Rs. 20.0 lakh (ex-showroom).
