Tata Motors has created quite a buzz with the launch of the Harrier EV, expanding its electric portfolio to six models now. This will be followed by the Sierra EV that’ll debut later this year before the company moves on to its Gen 3 skateboard EV architecture that will underpin the Avinya range of EVs. Speaking to Autocar India at the launch of the Harrier EV, Vivek Srivatsa, chief commercial officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, has confirmed that the company is preparing to launch the Avinya brand in 2027.
- First Tata Avinya model to launch in 2027
- Will debut Tata’s first born-electric vehicles
- Launch delayed due to shared EMA architecture with JLR
This means that the first Avinya model is delayed by at least two years – the company had aimed for a 2025 launch when it first showcased the Avinya concept in 2022. Earlier this year, we reported the first Avinya EV is likely in 2026, and now, it has been deferred to 2027.

Tata Avinya EVs: why the delay?
To launch the Avinya EVs, Tata Motors had entered into an MoU with Jaguar Land Rover to share the latter’s EMA architecture. But with Jaguar Land Rover’s local manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu getting delayed, Tata Motors is actively looking at alternative solutions. This even includes a low-cost version of the EMA architecture or sourcing architecture from outside the group.
Tata Avinya EVs to use skateboard platform
While all of Tata’s existing EVs are based on an ICE platform (Gen 2 Acti.ev architecture), including the upcoming Sierra EV, the Avinya models will be the first to use the Gen 3 skateboard born-electric platform. This will enable flat floors, optimised cabin packaging and radical styling, which will mark out this more premium range of EVs. “Radical styling will debut with Avinya, but the Harrier EV is an evolutionary step,” Srivatsa said.

In January this year, we had exclusively reported on Tata Motors exploring five models under the Avinya range – internally called P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5. A coupe-crossover concept called the Avinya X was showcased at this year’s Bharat Mobility Global Expo, which is understood to have previewed the P4 model from the line-up.
Avinya will create a new brand of premium EVs altogether
The first model from the Avinya range, the P1, will be manufactured at the company’s Sanand facility. Based on the Avinya concept showcased in April 2022, this EV is well into its development cycle. Sources suggest that the P1 is likely to be priced above Rs 35 lakh, making it the most expensive Tata Motors vehicle, at least until more premium models arrive.
