After being on sale since 2019, the Hyundai Venue has received a much-needed generation update in India. The prices of the new Venue start from Rs 7.90 lakh, and the compact SUV’s sportier version, the Venue N Line, has also been updated. Both rival popular models like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. We compare the new Venue with all its competitors to see how it fares, at least on paper.

New Hyundai Venue dimensions vs rivals

Specifications of Venue are almost similar to its rivals, but it gets a considerably lower ground clearance

The new Venue’s 3995mm length is more or less similar to that of its competitors. Its width of 1,800mm is less than that of the XUV 3XO and very similar to the Sonet, Syros and Nexon. It is significantly wider than the rest of its rivals. At 1,685mm, the Brezza is the tallest SUV here, which is 20mm more than the Venue. The Syros is the second-tallest, followed by the Hyundai. In terms of the wheelbase, the Venue, at 2,520mm, ranks third, alongside the Fronx and Taisor.

At 190mm, the Venue gets a good ground clearance that will be enough on everyday Indian roads. However, this is less than that of the Sonet, Nexon, XUV 3XO, Magnite and Kiger, all of which offer a ground clearance of over 200mm.

In terms of boot space, it is the Syros that leads, as its rear bench can be slid ahead and behind to accommodate more luggage. The new Venue and Venue N Line get 375 litres of boot capacity, which is comparable to the Sonet and Nexon.

The Venue continues with 16-inch wheels, while the Venue N Line comes with bigger 17-inch rims. Cars like Syros, Kylaq and XUV 3XO also get 17-inch wheels.

Mechanically, Hyundai has kept the Venue and Venue N Line unchanged, offering an 83hp naturally aspirated petrol and a 120hp turbo-petrol engine, which it also shares with the Kia Sonet. One difference is that the Sonet’s turbo-petrol engine is available with an iMT (clutchless manual transmission). The Syros uses the same turbo-petrol engine as the Venue and Sonet.

As for the naturally aspirated engine, the Venue’s 83hp unit has an output similar to the Fronx and Taisor, both of which produce 90hp. The Brezza, with its bigger heart, pumps out 20hp more than the Venue, but the Magnite and Kiger fall short by 11hp.

The Venue is, however, not the most powerful turbo-petrol option here, as the XUV 3XO’s more potent TGDi engine churns out 11hp and 58Nm more. On paper, its performance figures are similar to the Kylaq and Nexon, and numbers suggest that it outshines the Kiger-Magnite and Fronx-Taisor duos by a considerable margin.

In terms of transmission options, the Venue’s NA petrol engine is mated only with a manual transmission, while the turbo-petrol unit can be had with either a manual or an automatic transmission (DCT). This is the case with the Sonet too, but all other rivals offer a choice between manual and automatic options with their respective petrol engines.
