I am looking for a hatchback under Rs 9 lakh to replace my Tata Nano. I have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, but the problem is that I don’t see many of them on the road in comparison to the Swift or any other Maruti car. It also falls short in the features department. My second option is a Tata Tiago, which is feature-packed, but my experience with Tata’s service costs and maintenance tells me that it will definitely cost more to maintain.

Autocar India says: The Ignis isn’t a very popular Maruti, and the funky styling is quite polarising. It is also not as well-equipped as the Tiago, which has a plusher interior and more space. We feel the Tiago is a better value-for-money upgrade, but, as you say, the reliability of Tata Motors’ cars and its service network falls well behind Maruti Suzuki’s. Hence, the Ignis will give you more peace of mind. However, we understand that Tata Motors is addressing its after-sales weakness on a war footing, and hopefully, you will have a better ownership experience with your Tiago than you did with your Nano.
