
The Hyundai Creta Electric is on sale with two battery options – 42kWh and 51.4kWh. The latter, called the Creta Electric Long Range, has an ARAI-rated range of 473km and a single 171hp motor. Considering Hyundai claims a 0-100kph time of 7.9 seconds for the Creta Electric LR, we put the EV through our tests to see if there’s a difference in real-world performance.

As mentioned above, the Creta Electric LR has a 171hp, 255Nm front axle-mounted motor, which has to propel a near-1.6-tonne SUV. The Creta EV gets three drive modes – Sport, Normal and Eco. The top-spec Creta Electric LR Excellence we tested has disc brakes at the front and rear and comes with an ADAS-linked regenerative braking system with five modes – Level 0 (off), Level 1 (low), Level 2 (mid), Level 3 (high) and i-pedal, with the last one enabling single pedal driving.

In Sport mode, the Creta Electric LR’s tested 0-100kph time of 8.04 seconds is just 0.14 seconds behind Hyundai’s claimed time. Naturally, Normal and Eco modes are concurrently slower to the ton mark, but the variation is not that much; even in Eco mode, the 0-100kph time is 8.70 seconds.

As one can see from the 20-80kph and 40-100kph test results, there is very little difference in times between the three drive modes when it comes to outright acceleration. However, there is a noticeable difference felt when driving at part-throttle, or in a sedate everyday manner.

The four-wheel disc brake setup on the Creta Electric manages to bring the EV to a halt from 80kph in a competitive 2.52 seconds, taking 28.05 metres. In Level 1 regen mode, the Creta Electric LR takes 23.67 seconds to slow down from 80-20kph, while the Level 2 and Level 3 take 14.05 seconds and 10.32 seconds, respectively. In single-pedal driving mode, the electric midsize SUV takes just 7.75 seconds to slow down from 80-20kph, covering a distance of 106.42 metres.

Before we conduct our performance tests, we check and maintain tyre pressure based on the manufacturer’s recommendation and ensure the car has a full tank of fuel. The car is then tested in a controlled environment with two people on board, and the data is collected via highly accurate GPS-based timing equipment.
