One of the biggest updates on the new Kushaq is the introduction of a new Aisin 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox (AQ300) with the 1.0-litre TSI engine option, replacing the 6-speed torque converter unit (AQ250) that was available previously. Incidentally, Autocar India exclusively reported on the new AQ300 gearbox in November 2024. The reason behind Skoda opting for this new gearbox is quite straightforward – costs.
- New 8-speed AT is expected to be 10-15 percent more affordable
- It will also help improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions
Skoda Kushaq new 8-speed AT gearbox details
As opposed to the previous 6-speed Aisin unit that was imported from Japan, the new 8-speed AT gearbox is being manufactured in China on a huge scale. It’s no secret that China has a cost advantage when it comes to manufacturing, and that’s the core reason why Skoda has opted for this new 8-speed unit on the Kushaq. Although prices are yet to be announced, sources say it could be around 10-15 percent more affordable than the previous AT gearbox. Apart from China, this gearbox is also produced in Brazil.

The other big advantage of the new gearbox is that it is expected to make the 1.0-litre TSI engine more fuel-efficient. With two additional gears, an 8-speed unit offers closer-ratio steps between gears, allowing for smoother transitions and less fuel wastage during acceleration and deceleration. In standardised drive cycles, this can reduce the load on the engine, improve overall fuel efficiency and reduce CO2.
This gearbox is also expected to make its way to other Skoda-VW 2.0 cars – Taigun, Virtus and Slavia – with their respective facelifts, all of which are due this year.
Skoda Kushaq facelift: A brief recap
The new gearbox aside, the updated Kushaq also gets a more modern design and new feature additions such as a panoramic sunroof, a new 10.25-inch digital instrument, an improved air-conditioning system and even a segment-first massage function for the rear seats. The 115hp 1.0-litre TSI and the 150hp 1.5-litre TSI engines have been carried forward unchanged. Pre-bookings for the new Kushaq are underway, and prices will be announced in the coming weeks.
