Launched about a year ago, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is the 5-door version of the Thar. However, Mahindra has built the Roxx on a newer platform, along with an advanced off-roading system, multiple design changes, a longer list of features and more powerful engines. Keep reading to get answers to the five most common questions about the Mahindra SUV.
What is Mahindra Thar Roxx’s price?
Rs 12.99 lakh onwards
Mahindra offers a total of six variants of the Roxx: MX1, MX3, AX3L, MX5, AX5L and AX7L. Prices for these variants, which were hiked by up to Rs 60,000 in January, range between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 23.39 lakh (ex-showroom). Regarding the Thar Roxx’s on-road price, it is expected to be around Rs 15.16 lakh to Rs 27.40 lakh in Delhi and Rs 15.63 lakh to Rs 28.56 lakh in Mumbai.
Does the Mahindra Thar Roxx come with a sunroof?
Single-pane and panoramic sunroof options
The fully loaded Thar Roxx AX7L variant packs a panoramic sunroof, while the AX5L and MX5 variants below get a single-pane unit. It also packs 19-inch alloy wheels, LED projector headlights, powered ORVMs, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a driver’s display each, wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto and a 6-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system. It should be noted that the Thar Roxx is strictly a five-seater. Level 2 ADAS, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera setup, TPMS, all four disc brakes, ISOFIX seat anchors and three-point seatbelts for all seats round off the safety suite.
What are the Mahindra Thar Roxx engine options?
2-litre turbo petrol, 2.2-litre diesel
The Thar Roxx gets the brand’s mStallion and mHawk lines of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, respectively, which can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a torque converter automatic transmission. Depending on the Thar Roxx variant and transmission, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine generates 162hp-177hp and 330Nm-380Nm. Similarly, the Roxx’s 2.2-litre diesel motor is good for 152hp-175hp, and 330Nm-400Nm. While rear-wheel drive is standard, only the higher-stacked diesel trims can be had with a four-wheel drive (4WD) setup.
What are the Mahindra Thar Roxx off-roading features?
High and low reduction gears, electric locking differential
The Thar Roxx uses Mahindra’s 4Xplor off-road system, like the Scorpio N. The Thar Roxx’s 4WD system has high and low reduction gears, terrain modes (Snow, Sand and Mud) and an electric locking differential. It also has CrawlSmart, which lets you set a speed between 2.5 and 30kph so the SUV handles the terrain at that pace. Then, there’s the IntelliTurn Assist feature, which locks the rear inner wheel to help with tighter turns; this works below 15kph and remains active for up to 15 seconds. Along with the above-mentioned tech, its body-on-frame construction, massive 255/60-section tyres and high ground clearance make it very capable off the tarmac. Our Mahindra Thar Roxx review noted that the SUV can trample any road without a worry and go over muddy patches with ease.
