
The Toyota Innova Hycross has scored a 5-star safety rating in both adult and child occupant protection at the Bharat NCAP crash tests. The Innova Hycross, then, is the first Toyota, the first MPV and also the first hybrid vehicle to be tested by BNCAP so far.

Misses out points for adequate chest protection

The Innova Hycross has secured 30.47 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP). In the frontal offset deformable barrier test (14.47/16), the Innova Hycross provided good protection for most body parts for both driver and passenger, but chest protection was only adequate. It, however, secured full marks in the side movable deformable barrier test (16/16) and was also rated ‘OK’ in the side pole impact test.

COP score among the highest in BNCAP tests so far
In the child occupant protection (COP), the Innova Hycross secured 45 out of 49 points. It got full points in the dynamic test (24/24) and the CRS installation test (12/12) and 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test. Both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rearward-facing child seats, secured by ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. The Innova Hycross gets ISOFIX anchorages on the outboard rear seats but misses out on an integrated child restraint system.

Gets 6 airbags as standard

Bharat NCAP has tested both petrol and hybrid variants of the Innova Hycross, and has clarified that the rating applies to the entire Innova Hycross range. As standard, the Innova Hycross comes equipped with six airbags, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, ESC, ISOFIX anchors for rear outboard seats and a passenger-side airbag cut-off switch. The Innova Hycross also complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms. Top-spec ZX (O) trim also comes equipped with an ADAS suite.
