MG Astor Updated Yet Again – Loses Key Feature
As part of the latest update, MG Motor removed the Personal AI Assistant that was mounted on top of the dashboard of the Astor’s Sharp Pro and Savvy Pro variants. The Personal AI Assistant was a first for any car sold in India.
The Personal AI Assistant in the MG Astor offered features such as regular news updates. It could also provide weather updates, cricket scores and horoscopes as well. Users could also prompt it to tell jokes or access information via Wikipedia and could even chit-chat with it. It even allowed the user to control various car functions such as controlling the sunroof, AC, music, FM and voice calling via voice commands in Hindi, English and Hinglish.
While some users loved this feature, others expressed concern over its practicality and usefulness. An owner I spoke to said the device with its expressive eyes was a distraction while driving. However, he noted that his 4-year-old child loved its cute design and interactive nature.
Although the Shine Pro and Savvy Pro no longer offer the Personal AI Assistant, these variants still offer MG’s i-Smart 2.0 UI with over 80 connected car features. The i-Smart services are complimentary for 1 year with the purchase of a new Astor. The Select, Sharp Pro and Savvy Pro variants also offer digital key that prevent thefts. Other feature highlights include a 7-inch digital driver’s display, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 6-speaker audio system.
