
After being on sale since 2019 in a diesel-only avatar, Tata has finally launched the Harrier petrol in India. With this, the Harrier becomes the next Tata SUV to get the 1.5-litre Hyperion engine after the Sierra. It also gets some new features that are unavailable in the SUV’s diesel version. What is the price of the Tata Harrier petrol in India?
Available in 7 trims with ex-showroom prices going over Rs 24 lakh
The Tata Harrier petrol is priced between Rs 12.89 lakh and Rs 24.69 lakh. It is available in seven trims: Smart, Pure X, Adventure X, Adventure X+, Fearless X, Fearless X+, and Fearless Ultra. The top-spec Fearless Ultra is also offered in a Red Dark edition, which is exclusive to the petrol engine.
Which engine powers the Tata Harrier petrol?
Gets a retuned version of the Sierra’s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine

The Tata Harrier petrol is powered by the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that debuted in the Tata Sierra. However, Tata has retuned the motor to deliver 10hp and 25Nm more, bringing the total output to 170hp and 280Nm in the Harrier. The engine is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, both driving the front wheels (FWD). These output figures are close to those of the diesel version, which produces 170hp and 350Nm.
How is the Tata Harrier petrol performance in real-world conditions?
Low-end pull and braking performance are its strong points

The engine is well-suited to the SUV’s size, thanks to its strong low-end torque of 160Nm from just 1,000rpm. This helps the Harrier pull effortlessly from low speeds and makes city driving easy. While it doesn’t offer the mid-range punch typical of turbo-petrol engines, turbo lag is minimal and throttle response is good. The braking performance, with disc brakes on all wheels, is strong.
The engine refinement is also good with minimal vibrations; however, the engine is more audible than what is expected from a petrol motor. While it comes with both manual and automatic options, we tested the torque converter unit and found that the gear shifts are smooth and well-calibrated to stay in the optimal rev range.
What colour options are available with the Tata Harrier petrol?
Offers an exclusive exterior hue and a Red Dark edition

The Tata Harrier petrol comes with an exclusive Nitro Crimson exterior shade and Fearless Ultra trim, which the diesel counterpart lacks. The Fearless Ultra is available with a Red Dark edition too, which features Red Dark badges on the front fenders, red brake callipers, red accents on the seat upholstery, and red ambient lighting. Other colour options, including the Dark and Stealth editions, are common to both engine options of the Harrier.
What features are available with the Tata Harrier petrol?
A handful of features are exclusive to the petrol, thanks to the new trim

Thanks to the top-spec Fearless Ultra trim, the Tata Harrier petrol gets a few features that are not available on the diesel-powered version. These include a 14.53-inch Samsung QLED infotainment system, Dolby Atmos surround sound support for the 10-speaker JBL audio system, a digital inside rearview mirror (IRVM) with an integrated dashcam, and front and rear camera washers. Additionally, the driver’s seat memory function is now linked to the ORVMs.
Apart from these additions, the Harrier petrol retains all the features offered on the diesel model, such as a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, and powered front seats with ventilation.
What are the rivals of the Tata Harrier petrol?
Directly locks horns with the MG Hector
The Tata Harrier petrol competes with the MG Hector, which is currently offered only with a turbo-petrol engine. Meanwhile, the diesel version also takes on the Jeep Compass, which comes exclusively with a diesel engine.
