SUVs may dominate India’s utility vehicle (UV) market, but MPVs continue to hold their ground. With steady demand from families seeking practical 7-seaters, the first half of FY2026 (April to September 2025) has seen solid sales. The momentum looks set to continue, helped by GST 2.0-driven price cuts and festive offers.
In FY2025, MPVs outsold sedans and comprised about 11 percent of the 27.9 lakh UVs sold in India. Among the top players, most MPVs recorded growth, while only two Maruti models and Toyota’s Rumion saw a dip in numbers.

Here’s a quick look at the top 10 MPVs in H1 FY2026:
1. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
93,235 units, down 2 percent
Maruti Suzuki’s first MPV and segment leader for six years, the Ertiga, sold 93,235 units in H1 FY2026, down 2 percent year on year (YoY). Practical and city-friendly, the 7-seater runs on a 1.5-litre petrol mild hybrid or CNG, with manual and automatic options.
2. Toyota Innova Crysta / Hycross
53,589 units, up 2 percent
Toyota Innova recorded 53,589 units in H1 FY2026, up 2 percent YoY, with the Hycross now outselling the Crysta. The diesel-only Crysta remains a reliable choice, but growing demand is shifting to the petrol Hycross, especially its strong-hybrid version that delivers up to 16.1kpl on highways. The Hycross adds better efficiency, comfort and a touch of luxury to the trusted Innova formula.
3. Kia Carens / Clavis / Clavis EV
41,831 units, up 25 percent
Kia’s Carens posted 41,831 units, up 25 percent YoY. The growth follows the launch of the Clavis in May and the Clavis EV in July.
The Clavis offers 6- and 7-seat layouts, an updated interior and 1.5-litre petrol and diesel options across 21 variants, while the Clavis EV, with a 490km range, adds an electric choice to the line-up.
4. Maruti Suzuki XL6
16,947 units, down 13 percent
The Maruti Suzuki XL6, the 6-seat version of the Ertiga, sold 16,947 units, down 13 percent. Powered by the same petrol engine as the Ertiga, the 1.5-litre mild hybrid paired with a manual or an automatic gearbox, it offers added comfort and premium touches over the Ertiga.
5. Renault Triber
10,677 units, up 6 percent
Despite a weak Q1, the Renault Triber sold 10,677 units in the first half, up 6 percent. The rebound came from the July 2025 facelift, which brought mild interior updates and a more premium look. The car continues with the 1.0-litre petrol engine making 72hp and 96Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual as standard. There’s still no diesel or CNG option.
6. Toyota Rumion
7,267 units, down 29 percent
The Rumion, based on the Maruti Ertiga, has been one of Toyota’s most successful models in the past two years. Since its launch in August 2023, this practical, no-frills MPV has carved a space in the affordable family segment, with around 35,118 units sold till September 2025. In H1 FY2026, it recorded 7,267 units, down 29 percent; Q1 saw a 24 percent rise with 5,794 units, but slower Q2 sales dragged the total down.
7. Maruti Suzuki Invicto
1,491 units, up 19 percent
After a slow start in Q1, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto picked up pace in Q2, taking total H1 FY2026 sales to 1,491 units, up 19 percent. Built by Toyota for Maruti Suzuki under their partnership, the Invicto offers plenty of space, comfort and features. Sold through Nexa, it uses a strong-hybrid setup for better fuel efficiency and remains a practical premium MPV choice.
8. Toyota Vellfire
596 units, up 14 percent
The Toyota Vellfire continues to prove that high prices don’t deter buyers in the luxury MPV segment. The large, premium model sold 596 units between April and September 2025, up 14 percent. In FY2025, it recorded 1,155 units, nearly triple the previous year’s tally of 400 units. Strong demand for the Vellfire has also encouraged new entrants like MG, which recently stepped into the segment with its all-electric M9.
The Vellfire’s spacious, lounge-like cabin and 193hp 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine with an e-CVT make it one of the most refined MPVs on sale.
9. Kia Carnival
425 units, New Model
Launched in October 2024, the new Kia Carnival (Limousine) builds on its predecessor’s strengths with more comfort-focused features. Key highlights include second-row powered relaxation seats with ventilation, heating and leg support to ensure a comfortable experience for passengers. Despite its premium pricing, the diesel-powered MPV sold 425 units in the first half of FY2026.
10. Mahindra Marazzo
252 units, up 227 percent
The Marazzo remains Mahindra’s only MPV among its SUV-heavy line-up. In April to September 2025, the 1.5-litre diesel-powered model sold 252 units, marking a 227 percent jump from a low base of 77 units.
