Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: What We Know So Far
Maruti Suzuki have stated that the e Vitara is set to be the largest mass-produced and exported electric vehicle from India. While it will cater to the domestic market, the first batch of the e Vitara is already on its way to Europe, with planned exports to over 100 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan.
Unlike many electric vehicles that are converted from existing internal combustion engine (ICE) platforms, the e Vitara is built on a brand-new, dedicated EV-only platform. Powering the 2025 e Vitara will be a choice of 2 battery pack sizes. A 49kWh battery will be offered for front-wheel-drive models, while a larger 61kWh battery will be available for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. This flexibility allows customers to choose the powertrain that best suits their needs and driving style.

The e Vitara equipped with the 49kWh battery pack produces 144PS of power, while the 61kWh battery and FWD produce 174PS of power. Both versions produce a maximum torque of 189Nm. The e Vitara AWD gets 2 electric motors producing a combined power output of 184PS and maximum torque of 300Nm.
Maruti Suzuki’s new e Vitara electric SUV is built on the dedicated EV platform called the Heartect-e. This platform, designed with a focus on maximising interior space and optimising battery packaging, employs a skateboard architecture. This approach minimises overhangs, leading to a spacious cabin and efficient use of interior space. Furthermore, the Heartect-e platform prioritises safety with advanced features and high-voltage protection systems to safeguard the battery pack and ensure its longevity.
With a production target of 67,000 units in the fiscal year 2026, the company is determined to make a strong impact. The e Vitara is the first of 4 electric vehicles Maruti Suzuki plans to launch by the end of the decade. The new EV is expected to offer a claimed range of over 500 km and will be equipped with modern features such as a panoramic screen display, wireless connectivity, ventilated seats, and Level 2 ADAS.
Local Manufacturing Of Batteries
In another major milestone, TDS Lithium-Ion Battery Gujarat Private Limited (TDSG), a subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, has become the first company in India to begin local manufacturing of lithium-ion battery cells at the electrode level. These batteries are crucial for the hybrid systems of popular models like the Grand Vitara. This local production reduces India’s reliance on battery imports, contributing significantly to the nation’s self-reliance goals.
The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel, and the President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki. Mr. Suzuki emphasised the company’s commitment to India and its vision for a carbon-neutral future, highlighting the role of BEVs, strong hybrid vehicles, and those powered by natural gas and biofuels.
