What Mercedes-Benz Models Are Affected And What’s The Issue?
This latest recall in June 2025 impacts a total of 30 units of the affected Mercedes-Benz models in India, as per data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The core of the problem lies with the fuse boxes in these vehicles. It has been found that the fuse boxes might not have been properly assembled or “reworked” during manufacturing.
This defect can lead to several serious issues:
- System Failure: Systems connected to the affected fuse box might stop working correctly.
- Loss of Power: The vehicle could potentially lose its propulsion (meaning it might stop moving) without any prior warning.
- Impaired Functions: Safety features like restraint systems (airbags, seatbelts) or the instrument cluster (dashboard display) could also be affected.
- Increased Risk of Crash & Injuries: If these systems fail, it increases the chances of a crash and injuries to occupants.
- Potential Fire Risk: Under specific conditions, there is a potential risk of a thermal incident or fire within the vehicle, which is a major safety concern.
Specifically, the recall in India affects:
- 16 units of the EQS sedan.
- 9 units of the S-Class (including Maybach variants).
- 3 units of the GLC SUV.
- 2 units of the AMG SL 55.
Mercedes-Benz will directly contact the owners of the affected vehicles. They will then schedule an appointment for inspection and, if necessary, fix the issue. This repair will be carried out free of charge to the customers.
It’s notable that this is not the first time Mercedes-Benz has issued recalls in India this year. Reports indicate that earlier recalls in March 2025 also addressed a similar potential fire risk. Other recalls this year have included issues like a software glitch in the engine control unit (ECU) and a missing warning label related to the automatic front passenger airbag shutoff.
