Essentially a 3-row version of the Tiguan, the Tayron will be brought to India via the CKD route and is expected to sit above the Tiguan R-Line in Volkswagen’s portfolio. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming Tayron R-Line.
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line: What We Know So Far
The teaser images released earlier this month showed the Tayron draped under a white cover, highlighting its distinct front and rear lighting signatures. With the confirmation now in place, it’s clear that Volkswagen will be launching the R-Line variant in India, similar to how the Tiguan is currently offered.
Globally, the Tayron shares its design language with the Tiguan R-Line, and we expect the India-spec model to look largely identical. At the front, it should get full-LED headlamps, an LED light bar, and an illuminated Volkswagen logo, all of which help it stand out as a premium offering.

From the side, the Tayron’s longer body compared to the Tiguan is evident, which should translate into improved 3rd-row space and stronger road presence. Expect large alloy wheels, likely ranging between 18- and 19-inch units, depending on the final specification. At the rear, the SUV is expected to feature connected LED tail lamps, an illuminated logo, a roof spoiler and rugged bumper elements with faux skid plates.
Expected Powertrain And Drivetrain
Volkswagen are yet to officially confirm the powertrain for the India-spec Tayron R-Line. However, given its positioning and CKD strategy, it is expected to share its mechanicals with the Tiguan R-Line.
This means the Tayron R-Line is likely to be powered by a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine producing around 204PS and 320Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. An all-wheel-drive system is also expected to be offered as standard, reinforcing its premium and lifestyle-oriented positioning.
Launch Timeline, Expected Price And Rivals
Volkswagen have confirmed that the Tayron R-Line will be launched in Q1 2026, making it one of the brand’s most important launches for the year. With the Tayron positioned above the Tiguan R-Line, we expect prices to fall in the range of Rs. 46 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Once launched, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will compete with SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and Toyota Fortuner.
